16th Mississippi InfantryI’m trying my hand at crowdsourcing, or asking for contributions from the online community, for a history of each member of the 16th Mississippi Infantry.

If you have followed this blog, then you know that my great grandfather William B. Poore served in the 16th from 1863-1865.

I’ve created a muster roll database listing each member of the 16th Mississippi. On the database (an Excel spreadsheet) you can enter details about your 16th Mississippi Infantry ancestor on seven pages of different topics:

Vital information—Name, rank, date of birth, occupation, place of residence, physical description and so on.

Muster—Date of enlistment, promotions, date mustered out of service and other info.

Separation—Discharge date, reason for discharge, place of discharge, re-enlistment, etc.

Casualties—Whether wounded, date, place, killed in action, prisoner of war, died of disease, missing in action.

Pensions—Pension date, pension amount, type of pension, who received the pension

Postbellum—Brief history of the soldier after the war.

Additional information and sources—This is a place to enter the full information on your sources, make comments on the sources or any other observations you want to make.

I plan to use the database to help others research their ancestors in the 16th and to compile a history of the men who served in the regiment.

If you had an ancestor in the 16th or have information on its members and would be willing to share it, then email me and I will send you a link to the database that will allow you to enter your information. You also can download the database, if you like. You may email me at ralph_poore@yahoo.com.
